As part of our Partnership Program with NCCC, Juniors and Seniors can get a jump start on their college education by taking FREE college courses while in high school. With the partnership program, students with a B or better average can take two college courses and earn up to 8 college credits per semester at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. These credits can be used towards your degree at NCCC or be transferred to a number of four year institutions, saving you hundreds of dollars in tuition costs.  Interested students should see Ms. McLeod or your guidance counselor for more information. Registration deadline for the spring semester is November 15.

The 2013 yearbooks are in; if you ordered a copy you can pick it up at the high school main office. There is a limited number of extras books if you did not purchase one you can still do so for $65.00.

NCCC Partnership Program:  
As part of our Partnership Program with NCCC, Juniors and Seniors can get a jump start on their college education by taking FREE college courses while in high school. With the partnership program, students with a B or better average can take two college courses and earn up to 8 college credits per semester at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. These credits can be used towards your degree at NCCC or be transferred to a number of four year institutions, saving you hundreds of dollars in tuition costs.  Interested students should see Ms. McLeod or your guidance counselor for more information. Registration deadline for the spring semester is November 15.

ARTGARAGE:
The artgarage will be open today (Tuesday), but closed for the rest of this week.

PSAT:
Any sophomore who is interested in taking the PSAT, which will be administered in the cafeteria on Wednesday, October 16, should sign up in Guidance as soon as possible. Space is limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The test fee is $14.

2013 YEARBOOKS:
The 2013 yearbooks are in; if you ordered a copy you can pick it up at the high school main office. There is a limited number of extras books if you did not purchase one you can still do so for $65.00.

DRIVER’S ED:

An Audition Workshop, given by Michael Berkeley and Betsy Howie on Friday, October 18 from 2:30-5:15 pm.  Free to any student.

AUDITIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S HVRHS MUSICAL:
The Auditions for “Hello Dolly” will be Friday, October 25 from 2:30-5:15 pm and Thursday, October 31 from 2:30-5:15 pm.  Call backs will be Friday, November 1 from 2:30-5:15 pm. LAST DAY FOR RETAKES!!!
STUDENT PHOTOS & ID PICTURES RETAKES:
TODAY will be the last retake day! It is important that ALL students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 have their pictures taken, even if they are not purchasing photos. These photos are needed to update student ID cards, used in Power School, and also used for underclass photos in the Yearbook. Also, photo ID cards are now required for entrance to the SAT test. THERE IS NO COST for this. Students pay only if they choose to purchase a package. Please encourage everyone to have their photos updated as their appearances often change dramatically over the summer! FORMS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE MAIN OFFICE. Please also note the forms must be handed to the photographer at the time photo is taken. For the seniors, these ID pictures are not to be confused with their formal senior portraits. They should still get an updated ID photo taken for school purposes.
Please remind students that appropriate dressed is required—no hats, tank tops, low cut blouses, etc.

BOYS SOCCER:
The Boys Soccer Teams will be playing away today vs. Northwestern.  The JV bus will leave at 3:30 pm and the Varsity bus will leave at 6:00 pm.  JV play at 4:45 pm and Varsity play at 7:30 pm.

VOLLEYBALL:
The Girls Volleyballs team will be dismissed at 1:55 pm today for their away match vs. Nonnewaug.  The bus will leave at 2:10 pm. JV match at 4:00 pm and Varsity at 5:15 pm.

CROSS COUNTRY:

DEBATE TEAM:
This past Saturday, the Debate Team competed in its first-ever meet at Xavier High School in Middletown. The team made up of 15 students dominated by compiling a 12-4 overall record. Out of 106 students in attendance, Emily Sullivan ranked 7th, Connor Riley 3rd, and Sam Bradway took the top honor as the #1 ranked debater at the meet.  Congratulations team!
