CAREER CENTER NEWS

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

SENIORS

Students who need further assistance with their post-high school planning should stop by the Career Center as soon as possible. 

JUNIORS

Have you started your college search?

First, take a few minutes to update your top career choices under "My Careers" in Naviance.  This important information is used to identify students for potential enhanced learning opportunities such as field trips, guest speakers, job shadows, job and volunteer opportunities.

Next, stop by the Career Center to make an appointment with Ms. McLeod to start working on developing a tentative list of potential colleges so that college visits can be scheduled in the spring.

Although all juniors will be called down on an individual basis, you do not need to wait to be called down.  Come on by during your study hall and start your search today--senior year will be here before you know it!

SOPHOMORES

Guidance counselors have visited sophomore classes and all sophomores should have completed the "Do What You Are" personality assessment.  Sophomores should also update their top career choices under "My Careers" in Naviance.  Sophomore year is all about doing the RESEARCH about potential career interests.  We have many resources available in the Career Center to assist you in this process.  If you would like to come to the Career Center during study hall, please see Ms. McLeod for a pass.

FRESHMEN

As part of the LifeSkills career education unit, all 9th graders begin creating their career portfolios.  Students register with the Naviance software program and complete the Learning Styles Inventory.  They learning about the career planning process and the many resources available to assist in this process. Students also complete the DISCOVER career interest inventories and identify potential career choices in their Naviance portfolio.  Freshmen are invited to come back to the Career Center at their convenience for further exploration.

SHADOWING EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS

The Region One Partners in Education will sponsor experiences for juniors and seniors throughout the year. Each month a different career cluster will be highlighted and students with specific interests will be able to shadow experts in that cluster. Also during each month a speaker will be in the career center to share with all interested students relevant information and experiences in the highlighted career area. The career clusters include:

  • Education
  • Information Technology
  • Health & Bioscience
  • Retail, Tourism, recreation & Entrepreneurial
  • Government & Human Services
  • Arts and Media
  • Construction Technology & Design
  • Environment, Natural Resources & Agriculture
  • Technologies: Manufacturing, Communication & Repair
