Health & Physical Education

The Health and Physical Education program at HVRHS is designed to develop physical and health literacy as well as the social and emotional skills that students need in order to effectively manage emotions, set goals, have empathy for others, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.  Physical Education at HVRHS is a comprehensive program of fitness, sports and activities in which students are taught the essential skills and knowledge they need to lead a healthy lifestyle. Health Education at HVRHS enables our students to establish and practice health enhancing behaviors over a lifetime, and become healthy and productive citizens. Our curriculum is designed to motivate students to maintain and improve their health, prevent disease, reduce health-related risky behaviors, and develop and demonstrate health-related knowledge, attitudes, skills and practices.

Students must take and pass 1.5 credits in physical education in order to graduate.  PE 9 and PE 10 are one semester each, and PE 11 and PE 12 are one quarter each for a total of 1.5 credits.

Every student must take and pass one marking period of Health per year.
