Art

The HVRHS Art Department provides enrichment and growth through a wide variety of classes.  Most offerings are studio-based classes that challenge students to be creative problem solvers through rigorous project-based learning.   In addition to regular class work, HVRHS art students: 

  • Can pursue independent studies in advanced art practices for Portfolio Development
  • Have access to cutting edge technology, Mac Lab and access to Adobe Suite
  • Benefit from annual field trips such as The Clark Art Institute, or Wadsworth Atheneum, or PepsiCo Sculpture gardens
  • Receive instruction from professional guest artists
  • Works are displayed in the annual Blue and The Gold Exhibit
  • May be invited to participate in a Figurative Art Summer Workshop
  • Are eligible to apply for The Contemporary Visual Arts Scholarship which provides forty thousand dollars over four years and is awarded annually
  • Can work on art installations in the HVRHS Library Media Center 

HVRHS alums have gone on to prestigious art programs, e.g. Pratt Institute, Ringling School of Art, Lyme Academy of Art, Maine College of Art, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Parsons / The New School, Florence Academy of Art (Rome), Fashion Institute of Technology, San Francisco Art Institute, New York University / Tisch School of the Arts, the Rhode Island School of Design and The Savannah College of Art & Design.
