TOWN RABIES CLINIC SCHEDULED:
Housatonic Valley FFA, in cooperation with the CT Veterinary Medical Association, is holding its annual rabies vaccination clinic in Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 12:00- 2:00 PM at the Ag-Ed Center at the high school. The fee is $20.00 per animal, cash only. Pet owners who are on public assistance are permitted to have one pet vaccinated at no charge by showing their State Public Assistance Identification Card to the Clinic Coordinator. Written proof of a valid rabies certification must be presented to qualify for a three year vaccination.
Otherwise a one year vaccination will be given. Tags are not sufficient proof for a three year vaccination. According to state law, all dogs and cats, three months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies.
April 26th from 3-5 PM there will be a FREE Metal Art Workshop with the guys from Battle Hill Forge. Create your own piece of metal art using steel and rivets as you learn the elements of design. No Prior experience needed. You will learn metal working skills, such as steel punching, hammer skills, and riveting. Everyone will make a piece to take home. Limited Enrollment. The Northwest Corner will be the second link. Featured now are student-written articles about gas prices, our production of “South Pacific”, book and albums review, and more.
NORTH CANAAN SUMMER JOBS:
Applications are now available for the North Canaan Summer Jobs Program. You may pick one up in the High School main office. Students interested in working this summer must be residents of North Canaan and be 14 years old by July 1, 2012 and not older than 16 by August 1.
EARTH WEEK (April 23rd -27th):
On behalf of the Greensearch group, we have dedicated a week of school to Earth Week. Each day we have a different earth friendly task for the school community to participate in.
Monday: Meatless lunch day.
Tuesday: No lights / turn off computers.
Wednesday: Carpool / ride the bus.
Thursday: Compost lunch day.
Friday: Wear earth colors day.
We hope that you all encourage your students and fellow workers to participate in this important week to raise awareness and help make the world a more clean and healthy environment.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS:
This year the Battle of the Bands will be held on Saturday, April 28th at the HVRHS auditorium from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. The MC will be Jonathan Grusaukas. Set-up/Sound check from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Applications are now available through the HYBS and the main office at the high school. All applications MUST be received by Friday, April 5, 2012. General Guidelines for Entry: All genres accepted. No solo acts or a cappella acts (instrumental only). 2-3 song set; up to 20 minutes per band – includes on/off stage & Hal’s intro. Cash prizes for 1st place, Runner Up and People’s Choice. Must provide own instruments, equipment and sound system. (Further details outlined, once application submitted). Mandatory pre-meeting: Friday, April 20th. Your band will be advertised on all promos.
A class ring was lost, possible in or around the science wing of the school, if found please bring it to the main office.
It is recommended that all juniors take both the SAT and ACT their junior year. Please find the following information about registering for these tests.
The SAT’s will be given at HVRHS on May 5th, the deadline for registration is April 6th – students can register at www.collegeboard.org. The next SAT would be June 2nd with a deadline of May 8th. If you receive free or reduced lunch, please see your counselor for a fee waiver.
The ACT’s are not given at the high school, but are administered at several local area schools. The next ACT is April 14th – the late registration deadline is March 23rd. There is also a test on June 9th with a registration deadline of May 4th. You can register at www.actstudent.org. It is recommended that all students sign up for the optional Writing test when taking the exam. Again, if you receive free or reduced lunch, please see your counselor for a fee waiver.
