~ Announcements for Thursday, March 8, 2012 ~

NO LATE BUS ALL WEEK.

Lunch: Chicken Caesar Wrap, chips & carrot stix.
A la Carte: Roasted Tomato/Basil Quiche & salad.

THERE IS NO ACADEMIC BOWL PRACTICE TODAY.

There will be an end of the year boys basketball meeting in room 133 at 2:45 on Monday March 12th. All players should attend.

AFS CLUB SERVICE PROJECT:
The AFS Club will be working on a Service Project during the month of March. The students would like to support 2 self-sustaining initiatives created by women in rural villages of Guatemala: in Huehuetenango and in Quiche. During lunch each day the club members will be selling EGGS and VEGETABLES for $1 apiece. The AFS Club has established a goal of $1000.00. The HVRHS teachers & staff will also be involved in this project. The funds from Dress-Down days on Fridays will be earmarked for the 2 projects in Guatemala.

COLLAGE PLANNING NIGHT:
There will be a college planning night for all underclass students on Wednesday March 21st at 6:30 pm in Room 133.  Learn how to find the college of your dreams!

LEON VERETTO AWARD:
Congratulations to D. Williams for winning the Leon Veretto Award voted by the coaches of the Berkshire League. Leon Veretto was a long time Boys’ Basketball Coach starting in 1958 at Northwestern Regional and served as athletic director from 1968-1999. The Leon Veretto Award is given to a senior Boys Basketball player who best exemplifies good ability, outstanding basketball skills and a positive attitude toward the game and people. Congratulations to D. Williams on winning this award!

ROBOTICS:
The Who’sCTEKS Robotics Team traveled to New Hampshire to participate in the BAE Granite State FIRST Robotics Regional March 1 – 3 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH. Out of 50 teams participating, our team was the #3 seeded team. Our team was the only team to win all 10 qualification matches. We were eliminated in the quarter final matches. Congratulations to the team for building a solid robot and for their gracious professionalism.

SPORTS:
Spring sports offerings are as follows: Baseball, Softball, Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis, Golf, and Track and Field. All student-athletes must have a physical on file. For more information, please see Mr. Carroll

COUNTDOWN TO FIELD DAY:
Get 14 more lunches that meet PBIS goal by March 27th to earn a Field Day!

CLASS RINGS:
March 12th at 9:05 am (during activity block) Class Ring orders will arrive
& be given out in the cafe. There will be a light breakfast for Juniors that ordered rings. If you did not order a class and still want to, there will also be the opportunity to do so at this time.

SOCCER CAMP:
FREE Soccer Camp for boys & girls age 14 and under at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. On March 11, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:30 am. What to bring: Indoor soccer shoes (flat surfaced shoes), water, shin guards, ball, and gloves (if you are a goalkeeper). Head Coach: Myles Clohessy, Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach: Sebastien Lassuer. Mr. Hoot Belter will also be present.

Spring is just around the corner and before long we’ll be seeing our twilight visitors again!  In this month’s FYI program, you and your child can have a chance to construct a home for these winged creatures.  Join us for a great project that will help keep mosquitoes under control for the whole summer. The long format workshop will only require you to bring your enthusiasm as everything else is provided for….and remember, the program is FREE!
